'The one that got away' was painted as part of a series of paintings during the Covid-19 South African Lockdown, that reflect on the sense of self and celebrating our human existence. The series drew inspiration from friends of Charles' photographs that share magical moments of freedom prior to the lockdown. The original photograph was taken by Dean Oelschig of a moment of companionship and relaxation captured during a fishing expedition in Russia. It is painted with calm reflection of ones existence in the physical world and how we only exist because of other. "What is the human experience?"
